Tucked inside a striking blue brick exterior, this apartment building was ready for a little interior glow-up. A\Typical Design was brought on to rethink and refresh all the shared spaces—from entryway to elevator lobby to hallways—and give them a look that felt elevated, current, and just a little unexpected.
Our approach? Pair the cool, modern edge of the building’s architecture with warm, textural finishes and a dose of retro soul. We layered in slatted wood wall treatments and mid-century furnishings that nod to the building’s original era—blending the nostalgic with the new. In the corridors, tonal blues and custom paint breaks echo the facade and help lighten the long lines with thoughtful transitions. Adding in some playful terrazzo and palm print wallpaper to the entry, we help set the tone for the rest of the space. The result is a communal experience that feels cohesive, calm, and a touch more considered—proof that “common areas” don’t have to feel common at all.
