Behind the Design: You Can Have it All

As the leaves begin to change, and the crisp autumn air returns to Salt Lake, we are embracing the vibe with a cozy new project. Located in the picturesque Harvard/Yale neighborhood, this storybook home hosts all the classic architectural charm: coved ceilings, a spiral staircase, and original trim and brickwork. Take a peek to see how you can integrate some of our favorite features into your own home, if you’re looking for a little change, too.

We chose to paint the existing stair railing, window trim, and doors a classic black to really make the features pop. We also chose a deep green hue and updated hardware for the built-in bookcase, to give it some new life. The final touch: a bold and moody floral wallpaper brought to you by Ellie Cashman. A romantic touch that leads up to the private owner’s suite. The trim is painted in Tricorn Black and the shelving unit in Roycroft Bottle Green—both by Sherwin Williams.

In the converted attic, the primary bedroom was a bit of a design challenge because of the angled ceilings. To create a calm and cohesive look, we opted for sagey green paint on the walls, ceilings, and skylight. By doing this, the decorative windows at the far end become a focal point. A boucle platform bed and neutral checkered rug complete the cozy look. Bedroom painted in Evergreen Fog by Sherwin Williams.

A nook in the primary bedroom offers a view of the bold wallpaper from the lounge below. Contrasting with the exposed brick wall, the historical vibe fits in perfectly with the architecture of the home.

The dining nook in the main floor kitchen carries the color palette with a punchy graphic look. Wallpaper by House of Hackney offers a classic, but unexpected graphic. The rattan light fixture helps the space from feeling too heavy and offsets the black window trim and booth seating.
